Ingredients 

Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast 7 grams
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup raisins
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 egg beaten

Cross

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup water

Glaze

  • ¼ cup apricot jam

Instructions 

  1. 1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. 2. Add warm milk, melted butter, and beaten egg. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. 3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. 4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. 5. Punch down the dough and knead in the raisins. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape into buns.
  6. 6. Place the buns on a baking tray, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. 7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. 8. For the cross, mix flour and water to form a paste. Use a piping bag to pipe a cross on each bun.
  9. 9. Bake the buns for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. 10. For the glaze, heat apricot jam until melted and brush over the warm buns.
